This month, we’re celebrating the Shiraz you crafted in December by showcasing how it can elevate your favorite dishes. Red wine isn’t just for sipping—it’s a secret weapon for adding depth and richness to your cooking.

Here’s a mouthwatering recipe to try:

Red Wine Braised Beef with Shiraz

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (1 kg) beef chuck, cut into large chunks

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 carrots, diced

  • 1 cup Shiraz (or your favorite red wine)

  • 2 cups beef stock

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp thyme

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Season the beef with salt and pepper, then sear until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  2. Sauté Vegetables: In the same pot, add onions, garlic, and carrots. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Deglaze with Shiraz: Pour in the Shiraz, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Simmer and Braise: Add the beef back to the pot, along with beef stock, tomato paste, thyme, and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce is rich.

  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve over mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or alongside crusty bread for a hearty winter meal.

Shiraz’s bold flavors and spicy undertones make it the perfect choice for this dish, complementing the richness of the beef and vegetables.

Cheers to enjoying your homemade Shiraz in more ways than one!
