Tip of the Month: BBQing with Skewers
With BBQ season well upon us, any tidbits for making the ‘fire pit cooking’ easier are welcomed.
For those of you who love a good shish kabob, skewered shrimp and veggies or whatever your fancy, here is an excellent tip from my good friends Dawn & Rich (actually it was Dawns idea… so I’m told).
As I’m sure most of you know, you must soak those over-sized toothpicks we call skewers in water before piercing onto them our desired culinary treats and placing them on the grill. This is so we do not have a charred or completely burned away to nothing thin piece of lumber.
Instead of filling the sink with water and wasting space as well as trying to keep the skewers soaking and not just floating…try this:
TIP OF THE MONTH:
Fill an empty wine bottle with water and place your skewers directly inside the wine bottle.
– No floating wood in the sink that you have to push down every two minutes.
– No wasted sink and prep space.
– The more saturated the better.
– And it actually looks kind of cool. Like toothpicks for giants in a wine bottle holder.
Thanks Dawn…and Rich!
Happy BBQing.
Cheers!
